Temporary Protected Status Re-Designated for Syria
US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is extended for Syrians from April 1, 2015, through September 30, 2016. The extension applies to Syrian nationals and persons without nationality who last habitually resided in Syria. TPS-eligible Syrian nationals in the United States will not be removed and may request employment authorization. The re-registration period lasts through March 6, 2015. The initial registration period is from January 5, 2015, through July 6, 2015. TPS is available to Syrians whose immigration status will expire and who have no other status immediately available to them, or to Syrians who are in the United States unlawfully. TPS is not intended for foreign nationals who already have lawful status in the United States (i.e. H-1B, L-1A, Legal Permanent Residency, etc.).
